02. Initial Installation

Introduction

Install the NEQTO Engine to STM32 Discovery Kit using your local PC.
Before beginning installation, please confirm the following matter:

IMPORTANT

  • Please be aware of the following precautions when installing the NEQTO Engine to STM32 Discovery Kit:

    • Be sure to connect only one STM32 Discovery Kit to the PC.
    • Do not access the COM port to which the STM32 Discovery Kit is connected.
    • Do not run the STM32 Programmer software
    • Be careful not to turn off the power until the installation is complete. It will be the cause of the failure.
  • The installation tool executes a dedicated application (.exe) on your local PC. Please note that if the operation of the application is restricted due to the influence of the security function or security software of your PC, it may not operate normally.

    • This procedure is for initial NEQTO Engine installation.
      Note that all data on the STM32 Discovery Kit will be initialized when starting the installation.
  • » Update procedure [Windows 10]➔

    • This procedure is for updating existing NEQTO Engine installations.
      The parameters that have already been set to the STM32 Discovery Kit will be inherited and only the firmware will be updated.
      Another method to update firmware is utilize the FOTA feature.
  • » Uninstallation procedure [Windows 10]➔

    • This procedure is for uninstalling existing NEQTO Engine installations.
      All data including firmware on the STM32 Discovery Kit will be initialized when starting the uninstallation.

  • STSW-LINK009 ST-LINK/V2-1 USB to serial driver for Windows 10

  • STM32CubeProgrammer software for Win32/Win64 (Download and install v2.8.0 or v2.10.0 or later version)

    Can be substituted with the legacy utility software:

Initial installation procedure [Windows 10]

Install the NEQTO Engine to STM32 Discovery Kit. Please follow the steps below.

  1. Prepare a Windows 10 PC with the required STMicroelectronics software installed.

  2. Connect the STM32 Discovery Kit and PC using a USB cable for communication.

    JP4 must be set to the default 5V_ST_LINK. Refer to Power Supply information for more information.

  3. Open the device manager on your PC and check the COM port number to which STM32 Discovery Kit is connected.

  4. Please download the latest NEQTO Engine installation tool.

  5. Unzip the installation tool (zip file) and move it under the InstallationTool folder.

  6. Begin the installation.
    Please execute the "_install.bat".
    * Please execute after confirming IMPORTANT.

  7. A command prompt will be launched. After that, follow the tool's instructions to continue.

    1. Please read the important notes and enter "agree" if you agree.

      *** IMPORTANT ***
      This installer is a firmware writing tool dedicated to the STMicroelectronics STM32 Discovery Kit (B-L4S5I-IOT01A).
      Note that all data on the device will be initialized when starting the installation.
      Before starting the installation, make sure that the device is connected to the PC.
      If you agree and want to continue, please enter "agree" >> agree↵

    2. The COM port will be automatically detected. If it is not automatically detected, enter the COM port to which the STM32 Discovery Kit is connected and press the Enter key to proceed.

      Enter the STLink virtual COM port number: 18↵

    3. When the "Please remove the USB cable." message is displayed, remove the USB cable from STM32 Discovery Kit. Then, when the "Please reinsert the USB cable." message is displayed, reinsert the USB cable into the STM32 Discovery Kit.

      Please remove the USB cable.
      Waiting......................OK
      Please reinsert the USB cable.

    4. Please wait until the NEQTO Engine FW installation is complete.

      Starting the NEQTO Engine FW installation:

    5. If the Wi-Fi module's FW requires an update, it will also automatically be performed.

    6. Please wait until the final status "Success" is displayed.
      If the tool freezes in the middle of the process or "Failure" is displayed, please try again from step 6.

  8. When the tool has reached the end, installation is complete. Close the window to exit the command prompt.

Update procedure [Windows 10]

Update the existing NEQTO Engine firmware installation. Please follow the steps below.

  1. Prepare a Windows 10 PC with the required STMicroelectronics software installed.

  2. Connect the STM32 Discovery Kit and PC in User Console Mode using a USB cable for communication.

    JP4 must be set to the default 5V_ST_LINK. Refer to Power Supply information for more information.

  3. Open the device manager on your PC and check the COM port number to which STM32 Discovery Kit is connected.

  4. Please download the latest NEQTO Engine installation tool.

  5. Unzip the installation tool (zip file) and move it under the InstallationTool folder.

  6. Begin the update.
    Please execute the "_update.bat".
    * Please execute after confirming IMPORTANT.
    Note that if the FW included with the tool was already installed on the STM32 Discovery Kit, no update will be performed.

  7. A command prompt will be launched. After that, follow the tool's instructions to continue.

    1. Please read the important notes and enter "agree" if you agree.

      *** IMPORTANT ***
      This installer is a firmware writing tool dedicated to the STMicroelectronics STM32 Discovery Kit (B-L4S5I-IOT01A).

Uninstallation procedure [Windows 10]

Uninstall the existing NEQTO Engine firmware installation. Please follow the steps below.

  1. Prepare a Windows 10 PC with the required STMicroelectronics software installed.

  2. Connect the STM32 Discovery Kit and PC in User Console Mode using a USB cable for communication.

    JP4 must be set to the default 5V_ST_LINK. Refer to Power Supply information for more information.

  3. Open the device manager on your PC and check the COM port number to which STM32 Discovery Kit is connected.

  4. Please download the latest NEQTO Engine installation tool.

  5. Unzip the installation tool (zip file) and move it under the InstallationTool folder.

  6. Begin the uninstallation.
    Please execute the "_uninstall.bat".
    * Please execute after confirming IMPORTANT.

  7. A command prompt will be launched. After that, follow the tool's instructions to continue.
